I would write automated tests that do the following:

    1. A poller that just checks to see if the site is up and running.

    2. A test that pushes a lot of test data to the site and measure time taken for push.

    3. A test that pulls a lot of test data from site and measure time taken.

    4. Programatically invoke applets, ActiveX controls and verify results of operation.

    5. Simulate a multiple user scenario and stress out the web site, determine its breaking point.

Unfortunatelly this will not be so cheap.

So I will take a universal remote, I will put an LED (with red and green), and then do the following:
on the back a small switch to enable learning.
    1. turn the switch on
    2. check the LED is red
    3. take the original remote and press a button until the LED becomes green (this means that your new remote learned the frequency)
    4. keep pressure on the respective button from new remote until the LED blinks
5 wait to get red again
    6 go to step 2

    interesting guess?

First, try to get a hold of the universal IR codes and associated signals. If not available but the individual remotes (to be replaced) are, then I would first put in some IR receiver (or transceiver) to read all IR signals, in addition to an IR transmitter. Then, I would program the universal remote chip to record and store via the receiver a signal from the original remote while pressing some button on that remote (e.g. ‘play’) while simultaneous pressing a program button (’prog’) with some target button to program (’play’) on the universal remote. Then, when that programmed button is pressed on the universal, it simply replays the stored IR pattern. Unfortunately, most “universal remote” don’t work this way but rather depend on those codes, which makes them obsolete after a while and highly inflexible.

Make everything voice activated. It’s already happening in our day to day life. e.g. cell phones, cars, homes (turn on/off light) etc.

thinking in terms of inheritance and polymorphism…i will make a an abstract remote and design specific remote for each item.

This way its truly universal in that it can handle all the objects. [:)]
